In my previous post I mentioned the model garden project in Basse. The Rural Support Organisation for the Disabled are trying to set up a model garden so that disabled people in Basse and the surrounding villages can learn skills and earn a living without begging. The group need to raise£3000 to buy tools, equipment and build fences so yesterday VSO Sam did a 10k sponsored run to raise funds for the garden. Inspired by this I have decided to do an equally stupid act of physical punishment to try encourage you to contribute to the project. Next weekend I am going to be cycling 370hot, dusty, sweaty kilometers from Basse to Banjul and I am asking people tosponsor me by donating to the garden project.Yesterday I did a bit of a trial run from Basse to the next big town along the river, Janjanbureh, to see if my body still functions cycling in this heat. I am please to say that I made it here and I am now making the most of having access to a functioning internet connection by uploading the pictures from yesterday’s journey:Crossing over the border from Upper River Division to Central River Division. This tree may well have save my life by provide shade for 10mins while I waited for my headache to pass. And, yes before you ask, I do know I have a tshirt on my head. Can you feel the heat?Having a celebratory chicken and chips with Phil and Cath in Janjanbureh.
