Today was a perfect day. At 2pm, Esther, Rosie and I hit the swimming pools of Crystal Springs, which is a guest house set facing the mountains of Chipata on the outskirts of town. The walk to Crystal Springs was long and very hot. As we climbed up the hill with the cars tooting us for taxi rides, I began to get the feeling you get in the desert when all you want is water. Finally we approached a lovely yellow coloured building set back against the road and as we approached, I caught sight of the lovely pool, which was like heaven on such a hot Sunday afternoon. Rosie had already turned up an hour earlier (actually at the right time as we were later). I realised we were late as I got confused by the change to the clocks back home, which automatically meant that my Zambian time had become UK time. We were greeted with screams from Rosie of“what time do you call this. Is this Zambian time?! (ie you’re late just like the zambians), so we knew we were in trouble. The guilt soon subsided, as we stripped off into our swimming gear and dived into the outdoor pool for light refreshment.. It was lovely.
