Have had a good first day in Ghana on our in-country training. Met at the airport by current VSO volunteers who guided us through the hotel registration and looked after us well, thanks team! Good night's sleep, air conditioning was a joy, breakfasted with the assembled throngs of VSO Ghana and quickly got stuck into the 'who's behind the curtain', fine collection of animals from phoenix to camel represnted! (who knows what I am talking about, Woodies maybe?! Coach trip around Accra, showed us many of the sights, some not to be photographed like the American Embassy, sat in traffic challenges and enjoyed watching four or five cars at various times being pushed across the traffic lanes, petrol shortage or just saving fuel? Pool side lunch followed by a in-depth understanding of the current and future VSO Ghana strategy from Ibrahim. We know so much now about the various protocols and policies of VSO! Finished off the day with form filling, living in another country can be very complex, whether it is the UK or Ghana, extremely important to remember what it must be like for refugees, immigrants who don't have support and the language.Four more days of useful insights into our programmes and our future roles then we leave behind 'sauna' Accra for 'oven' Tumu.Meeting other VSOs from Canada, Phillipines, India, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, USA, Australia, Scotland, Ireland, Kenya, (I think that's the complete list, but I may have to update it tomorrow!), shows the wide remit of VSO International, it's great to see and be part. That tropical twilight is just starting and we will be eating dinner in the dark outside. No photos, my card reader is in one of three bags and I am not going to start looking at the moment - card reader found- Independence Arch Accra! Keep following the blog, sign up and don't forgetJustGiving - http:/www.justgiving.com/Marion-and-John-Lace, nearly half way there, thanks for all your kind contributions to supporting VSO for all current and future VSOs, maybe you next time!
