We arrived in Addis Ababa at 7.30 last night and spent over an hour trying to find Lalibela, a restaurant recommended by the hotel receptionist. After never finding it and settling for somewhere called New York(!) we then got lost going back to the hotel. So whilst not successful with regards to finding what we were looking for it was a good way to look around Addis. It is so much bigger and more capital city like than Kigali! It looked very different this morning as we headed out in daylight; a lot less intimidating and easier to navigate. We headed to the museum to see‘Lucy’ the most complete skeleton of an ancient hominid. We then headed for lunch and ice cream and were more than surprised to find that it didn’t take hours to arrive like in Rwanda!LucyBanana Split! That evening, after going to a cafe for dinner which had a bookshop and a section advertising cultural activities we got a taxi back to the hotel- we weren’t risking getting lost again! As we were getting in I went to use the seatbelt. ‘Doesn’t exist’ the driver told me as he put his own on then followed it up with ‘Driver safe’. I wasn’t sure if he meant that he was a safe driver or whether he was safe as he had his seatbelt! I decidedto play on the side of caution and cling onto the dashboard for dear life.
