A selection of ideas I have heard in Bolgatanga about the killing of Osama Bin Laden:“Bin Laden is not in fact dead. He has powerful magic protecting him so that bullets cannot touch him.”“Bin Laden was not responsible for September 11th. That was the responsibility of the people flying the aeroplanes and they’re all dead now anyway.”“Bin Laden was not responsible for September 11th. It was all just a nasty accident.”“Bin Laden is able to change his face to look like anyone he wants. He can make his face look like you or me. Therefore, the Americans might think they have killed Bin Laden but, in fact, it was someone else and Bin Laden escaped using the face of Barak Obama.”“Even Bin Laden’s wife was on the radio saying she doesn’t know where Bin Laden is. If his own wife doesn’t know, the Americans definitely cannot know.”“Bin Laden is able to vanish. How can you kill someone who is able to vanish like that?”And of course, the inevitable:“If Bin Laden is really dead, why is there no body?”
