We headed to Djibouti today after relaxing in the hotel in the morning. We were the only people waiting for our flight to Djibouti from Dire Dawa and when we boarded the plane (an international plane) we were the only people in standard class. It felt like we’d hired our own private jet!The first thing that struck me when we arrived in Djibouti was the heat. It was so humid. We had a interesting time trying to get into Djibouti. The first visa official was very kind and let us buy a three day visa even though we were going to be there for four days. However, during the visa process another visa official arrived and seemed reluctant to let us into the country. First he disappeared with our passports and then he returned and demanded proof of where we work. I had my work card on me so I gave him that. He disappeared again and then returned and reluctantly let us into the country. Only all the doors of the airport were locked so we didn’t actually get into the country. We ended up wandering round a very small airport desperately trying to find an open door or a person with a key. We eventually found a cleaner who was able to let us out. Very strange!
