I had to take my laptop to a shop in Siem Reap. They said I needed a new main board which they got from another computer in Phnom Penh. This would cost $40 but if it didn't work they said there would be no charge.I was a bit disappointed after being told it was all done and ready to collect to then be told they wanted to test it. This resulted in them finding that the LAN didn't work. However, they have fixed the problem of the overheating (one part was quite melted!) and I can use wi-fi. They sold me an adaptor so I can use it with a USB connection when I need to connect to a cable. So I'm back in action! We are currently travelling around Cambodia again with Alison's brother John. Most of the time we have wi-fi but we'll be back in our house for the last week of June and Alison's final week in her VSO placement! This does feel very strange but we're hoping that once we have settled in, that the new lifestyle will compensate for the upheaval of leaving the VSO lifestyle. When we move to our new house we will have wi-fi - let's hope it's reliable!!Last weekend we went to Bangkok to meet John and extended our stay by going a couple days early. We enjoyed the usual delights including Jazz at the Sheraton. This is always of the highest standard but the pianist has had some health problems and plays a bit too much slow sad music unless somebody stops him! Shame - he has such a brilliant, rhythmic style when he livens it up.After a night with John we made our way to Mongkul Borei. John cycled with me to the market but it soon became obvious that the heat was too much for him so we moved into the Botoum Hotel in Sisophon which seemed to do the trick. We're onto our 4th. night in Siem Reap now and did one long morning at the temples which was good. It was mostly very quiet but we got caught up with a tour group at Ta Prohm which made it a bit harder. We're off to Battambang tomorrow where John can sample such delights as the Bamboo Railway- should be an adventure. After 2 nights there, we're going to Phnom Penh and will stay at the Pavilion for 3 nights followed by 2 nights at the lovely Veranda Bungalows in Kep. We will probably go back to Phnom Penh on route to our house and Bangkok to see John off on the 25th. - we're not sure about that yet as we've left some days free for him to choose what he'd like to do.I had a reply from the Music School I mentioned last time but they're only employing Cambodian staff at the moment but they have invited me to have a look around some time. It's nice to have the laptop working again at a total cost of $20 in the end (including the adaptor) so maybe I can start catching up with things a bit!
