July seems relatively quiet compared to previous years. Many B&B owners and people offering holiday lets are saying that bookings are down. Sardinia has a big dependency on the tourist industry during the summer months especially from Italian tourists visiting from the mainland. This year, probably not helped by the massive increase in ferry prices to and fro from the continent, there has been a decrease in visitors. I recently heard on the news that only one in six Italian families are taking a vacation this year. Pula is usually thriving with tourists but I have particularly noticed that the small town isn't as busy as usual. Having said that August is the busiest month so we still have to wait and see what that month brings. In many ways it is nice to go to beaches that aren't too busy, find parking easily in the town and encounter less traffic on the roads.A relatively quiet Nora facing NorthThe weekends in this area are still busy though, the beaches are packed as many Cagliari residents and locals love to swim in the crystal clear waters and get tanned. Italians love to get brown! I avoid beaches at the weekend and am lucky enough to have time during the week to get to the beach. My local one, only 3km from my house, is fairly tranquil so it's easy to find a nice peaceful spot and chill in bliss for a couple of hours.Nora facing southWe are having a typical Sardinian summer. Beautiful clear blue skies with temperatures ranging from 30-37C. We usually get a good four months of guaranteed hot sunshine sometimes longer so it really is one of the best places to spend the summer......if you like the sunny hot weather of course!
