I had to return to the UK from Rwanda due to health reasons. I loved my life in Rwanda and have a deepest respect for my friends, neighbours, colleagues and people that I have met during my 13 month stay. Rwanda became a home for me and it was difficult to leave my new home with everything that became so meaningful to me.Even though I was very ill towards the end of my stay I was determined to stay and do a proper hand over of the job to Anna and Jason. I wanted them to know where the schools are, introduce them to the people in the District, and the headteachers and just give them a real good start into this very complex job. Also just the normal life things:Where to buy food, how to get money out of the bank, how to find a motorbike driver, how to best relax on a motorbike while going offroad with a big bag on your back, how much do things cost, what to prepare for all this days when there is no water, how to prepare your food, how to prepare your drinking water (as it comes brown and smelly out of the tab)and how to get rid of the bloody creatures-creepy crawlers, bed bugs, fleas, etc- that can spoil your day and yes....the Tarantula does not BITE...you just have to snip it away.....In their first few days I took them along to one of my Head Teacher Trainings to give them an idea of what they are getting into.Training at Rukira SchoolKids at Rukira SchoolOur motos parked outside the schoolWriting words on your neighbour's backTeachers having fun.Anna's first teacher training experience in Rwanda!Children at Rukira School out at a break.Jason teaching relay dictation."Hey! What are you guys doing in there?"You two both have done an awesome job over the time of your stay in Ngoma District!!Brilliant work guys!!!I am so very pleased about it.
