The opinions expressed in this blog are the author's own and do not express those of VSOThe best laid plans of mice and men, go oft awry......The quotation, (from Steinbeck,I think!) often comes to mind. Never more than right now. Since my arrival in Cambodia almost 2 years ago, if I thought about danger at all, it was in the context of a motorbike accident,an injury caused by someone carelessly running in to us, or losing control on a muddy track and sliding into a ditch or river,a snake bite perhaps, Something that could improve with telling! How embarrassing then to hop out of a taxi, look around, step into a hole in the footpath, twist an ankle, break a bone, end up in plaster from toes to knee and spend weeks hobbling around on crutches! How mundane!Never having had the need for crutches before, the experience, which I could well do without is new and not so pleasant.I see sympathetic faces looking down at the injured foot. The foot however feels fine, just a lazy lodger being carried around, while every other muscle in my body aches from the strain. The good foot, arms, shoulders, elbows, and neck are all screaming,'we're worn out, give us a break' My time here is running out. Though I should be back in action well before schools reopen, I have a few holiday projects started that are looking promising. One is to find a training centre for 2 disabled girls who are of average intelligence, but walk with difficulty. At least I know what that feels like. I have more understanding of their plight and more determination to do something about it.Meanwhile I sit impatiently, hoping my wonderful VA Joe, SKYPE and the internet can work miracles. They say God never closes a door without opening another one! It feels like Hell in the hall right now!
