This was just an awesome evening. You had to be there at the Little Theatre where the Phillippo Baptist Church Senior Choir performed Jamaican folk songs for the audience. There was constant movement around the stage. As well as the singing, there was also dancing, drumming, story, history, learning and pantomime as well. Even if you were deaf, there was something for you.Arriving - just to prove I had been there. The buses (either 61 or 66 work) took me there much earlier than expected so here are some photos while I waited. The folk singers do their shows all over Jamaica so you don't have to be in Kingston to experience them. This is a close up of one of the photos that looks like it was taken down at the market area.A photo to check that the flash setting was switched to off.The folk singers at last. My photo gradually improve as I adjust the steadiness of my grip to the darkness of the room. The blackboard writing is to be ignored for audience purposes. This is a night when you did not want to have golden silence. After the intermission it was a 100% Kumina drumming and singing session. This was the best drumming I remember hearing in Jamaica.Seeing as I was one of the first people in the theatre my initial thought at the intermission was where had all these people come from. Then I remembered I was in Jamaica and the starting time was just a suggestion. You have to see Jamaican folk singing in Jamaica. It won't be as blurry as my movement-challenged still photos. Also, if you can't get to it, it will come to you.
