A couple of weeks ago I visited Amboseli national park. Located on the border with Tanzania, it has stunning views of Kilimanjaro and is famous for its elephants. We entered the park at dawn to be greeted by a couple of sentinels:We were lucky enough to spot a pride of lions. They were looking pretty lazy so we figured they'd had a successful night:And sure enough a little later we saw a hyena trotting past carrying a zebra leg in its mouth! And there were elephants everywhere. They love the swampy areas in Amboseli, and as the sun gradually broke through you could see herds of 20 or 30 elephants heading for the water. The birdlife was incredible too, with these vain chaps stealing the show:We stayed with fellow volunteer Lennart in a small town calledLoitokitok, and woke the next morning to a clear view of Kili's snow-capped summit, before heading out on a "piki-piki" (motorbike) safari, with me and my two friends Heather and Tonja riding pillion. It was extremely awesome - riding through open scrub and past zebra, giraffe and even elephants (from a safe distance!) was incredible. It was also very dusty, as you can tell from the pictures...A big thank you to Heather, Tonja, Lennart, Lowell and Gareth W for variously contributing to a brilliant weekend. You guys rock! And thanks too to Bobby for donating his old camera - without a decent zoom lens I could never have taken most of these photographs.
