We left the Grand Canyon this morning taking a six hour drive to Las Vegas. On the way we drove along the famous Historic Route 66.Route 66It was still daylight when we finally got to Las Vegas and Mex drove us along the strip pointing out all the hot spots. To be honest I wasn't overly impressed, I wasn't sure what to expect, however as night came in and it all became lit up it did have a more exciting feel. A few of us spent a few hours checking out a couple of the famous hotels and their outside displays. I quite liked the dancing water fountain outside The Bellagio where Oceans 11 was filmed. The famous Volcano outside The Mirage was not at all impressive. The Venetian Hotel which tries to resemble Venice has Gondola rides in what looks like a swimming Pool!!! After a few hours walking around I had had enough of all the noise and tackiness and way to many slot machines.VegasDancing fountainGondolas in Las Vegas! One evening was enough for me but maybe it's the type of place that grows on you. We left for London the next day. I was really sad to end the trip though, I could have very easily continued on exploring more of the National Parks in the US....that'll have to be for another trip :-)
