Beni Beniusto Villa San Pietro! MeaningWelcomein the Sardinian language! Villa san Pietro is the small village where I live in Sardinia in the province of Cagliari. I thought today for my first blog entry of the year I'd share a few pictures of the quaint place. The centre of the village originally began to develop around the Romanesque-pisan church in the 13th century. The old churchAs the church is rather small a new one was built only a few years ago about half a kilometer from the centre. The spire is visible from a far.The new churchThe village itself lies at the foot of a mountain range so as you walk outside the centre you emerge straight into the countryside. This time of year the orange and mandarin trees are fully ripe with their fruit.A local orchardThere is a river which runs by the edge of the village, standing on the bridge which crosses it you get a full view of the mountain range.Looking east on the riverYou can take some pleasant walks or even cycle up into the local mountains. As you wander up the views are pretty impressive. It's not a place bustling with activity as you can probably imagine it's more for people who want a more tranquil environment to live in. The advantage is that it is only 30km from Cagliari so if you crave for some city life in 20 minutes you can have it. At the same time it is located only a stones throw to some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, they are literally on our doorstep.
