Addio palm tree

The punteruolo rosso (the red palm weevil)has killed the lush palm tree planted at the front of the villa. These beetle like insects have destroyed many palm trees here in Sardinia over the last few years. The beetle lays eggs which hatch into larvae, they then excavate holes in the tree trunk thus eventually killing the plant. Ours wasn't quite dead yet but had been infested by the insects.red palm weevilgradually getting cutDown it comes It does feel a bit sad to see it go, it seemed to give an identity to the villa. However, new growth will appear as a verdant olive tree will eventually be it's replacement....
