A long time ago, I blogged about theterrifying dash across a 6-lane highwaythat I have to make on foot every day on my way home from work. With time, I've learned to take my time and just wait until I feel comfortable crossing, however every day I see people (mostly young men) taking incredible risks.Last Friday, I saw what I had been dreading since the day I arrived. I was on a matatu on my way into town after work, when traffic slowed right down and I saw branches laid out on the road (a recognized sign of some type of traffic accident or broken down vehicle). A lone police man was directing traffic and just beyond him a crowd was forming around the body of a lifeless and quite bloody young man who must have just been hit. About 15 minutes later I heard ambulance sirens, but based on what I saw, expect there was no hope for the man.Traffic accidents are your highest risk in Kenya and this is probably true of most African countries.
