Making Links Across the Globe . . . .I have continued with my team-teaching of phonics this week including starting with some new teachers within the schools:The children have remained as enthusiastic and welcoming as ever to having me in their classrooms . . . . .However to make my short time here as sustainable as possible, I am in the process of trying to establish a link with one particular school, with my school back in the UK. The school here, Hamdaniya, is particularly enthusiastic about this idea and set about writing their first letters this week:The year 6 teacher explained about what the pupils could write about in each paragraph, and then off they wrote . . . . .The Head Teacher, 'Victor', thinks this link is a fabulous idea, and was keen to offer his support to his pupils in order to make sure they didn't make any mistakes(armed with his tippex!)We have already received some letters (via email) from year 5 at Curwen and so this boy read them aloud to the class:Alongside a link between Hamdaniya and Curwen, I have also been supporting a different school (St Charles) to maintain their pre-existing link with a school in Hull. These children also enthusiastically wrote some letters this week:All the teachers, the pupils, the Head Teachers and myself are very excited about the prospect of making 'new friends' from across the globe and learning about how other people live. Next week some of the pupils will make short videos describing their school, so the pupils in the UK can see the similarities and differences(and hopefully start to realise how unbelievably lucky we are in terms of the amount and quality of resources we have readily available in our UK schools.)We are all very much looking forward to receiving the letters coming from the UK!(and waiting with anticipation for the books - still!!)Lots of Ghanaian hugs to you all . . .Ali x
