A Special Blog for Year 2 at Curwen:How is Ghana the same and different to Plaistow?Dear Year 2,I was very pleased to hear that you are learning about Ghanaand trying to find things that are the same and different to Plaistow. I am very much looking forward to seeing your work when I come back in January. In this blog I have included lots of photographs of my new area in Northern Ghana for you to look at and talk about in your classes. This is a map of the country of Ghana - can you find it on the classroom globe? Can you see which countries are to the North, East and West of Ghana?I flew into the capital city Accra, and now I live in Bolgatanga - can you find these two places on the map?At Christmas I am going to Cape Coast which is by the sea. It will be very hot and I am looking forward to sunbathing on the beach!Schools in GhanaI have started working in some different schools. Some things are the same as Curwen and some things are very different. What can you see in these photographs? Here the girls are using my laptop to send a letter to the year 6 children at Curwen. Some girls had never touched a laptop before and they were very excited. The girls were more than happy to all share one laptop - are you as willing to share your laptops with your classmates???!This outdoor space is the hall, the playground and where the children have their assembly. How does it compare to our new hall and playground at Curwen? These are the school toilets.Lots of the children do not have toilets in their houses so they are happy to use these ones. The life of a child in GhanaWhat do you like to do after school and at the weekends? These photographs show what some children in Ghana do. . . . .How does the photograph above link with this photo . . . . .After school this girl has gone to the market to work - can you see what she is doing? Some children do not go to school as they have to help their parents make money. Can you see what this boy is doing?Shopping in GhanaThe market is a very important place in Ghana and on market day everybody goes to buy and sell their food as well as clothes and other products.Look at these photographs of the markets and think about how they are the same and different to Green Street or Westfield, Stratford . . . . . I am looking forward to receiving your questions about Ghana on the MLE forum.Missing you all . . .Ms Helm x
