Today I got a mention in three of the four national newspapers with articles about a project I’ve been working on, although it wasn’t me that made the headlines:“Health Ministry receives British grant to treat disabilities – Kits worth £4,088.27”– Guyana Chronicle“UKdonation to aid persons with disabilities in remote areas”– Stabroek News“British High Commissioner makes donation to Health Ministry” – Kaieteur NewsI had to laugh at one of the papers that said:“Kaieteur News understands that the donation was a response to a call for assistance made by Ms. Fiona Craven, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Speech& Language Therapist attached to the Ministry of Health."I wish I could say it had been one simple call for assistance! But despite all the hard work it has been a wonderful high to end on.But searching the papers this morning reminded me that this blog would not be complete without some newspaper headlines. The shocking headlines and graphic photographs are a daily reminder that despiteGuyanabeing a beautiful country, it has a darker side fuelled by horrendous violence, political corruption and big involvement in drug trafficking.
