This week, my roommate and I have been out almost every night enjoying meals at fine restaurants and drinks at the bars in upscale Westlands. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) I’ve been living the life of a wealthy ‘ex pat’ instead of a volunteer and it has to stop or I’m going to be broke! :-)After 3 nights out in a row, tonight we are going to Carnivore Restaurant for my roommate’s birthday celebration. Carnivore is a restaurant popular with both tourists and locals, where a very good friend of mine says you go to “get the meat sweats”. It’s basically an all-you-can-eat meat feast! (A vegetarian’s nightmare, but coming from Calgary, it’s my roommate’s dreamcome true). Waiters carve portions of almost every type of meat imaginable at your table off of Maasai swords – including beef, chicken wings, crocodile, and lamb, only to name a few. (Game meat, like giraffe and zebra, also used to be served until it was declared illegal.) I’m told the feeding frenzy doesn’t stop until defeat is declared by lowering of a white paper flag on your table.Hopefully Richelle will be able to do Calgary proud!
