When I mentioned yesterday that Carnivore is popular with both tourists and locals alike I wasn’t kidding, as even our friend who is friends with the owner couldn’t pull any strings to get us a reservation last night!As often happens, bad news turned into good news when we instead discovered Fogo Gaucho, an authentic Brazilian restaurant in Westlands. The concept for Carnivore was actually built upon Brazilian restaurants, so we were not at all disappointed. When you arrive at Fogo Gaucho you are invited to the salad bar, then throughout the entire night waiter after waiter comes to your table with piping hot skewers of meat to choose from including pork ribs, numerous cuts of steak, crocodile, shrimp, lamb and chicken, only to name a few, as well deep fried bananas and French fries. For dessert, you are served skewers of roasted pineapple with caramelized cinnamon and sugar on the outside (a must try at home on the barbeque I’ve decided!) And the ambiance is lovely, with a a live band playing in the background as you enjoy your meal.By the time you’re done, it’s definitely time for a nap to digest a good week’s worth of protein in one night. And I'm very happy to report, Carnivore or no Carnivore, Richelle did Calgary proud!
