Our local marina has turned into a little social gathering point. A restaurant, bar and ice-cream shop have opened in the parade of buildings over looking the small port. The view is so picturesque whilst you sit having a coffee or ice-cream.View from the barThe shops opened up just over a month ago and yesterday evening there was a wine tasting event held there in the presence of a local musical band, and a few artisan stalls. It's in a spot where the wind blows in off the sea which I felt was a real welcome, cooling you down from the hot humid weather we're having. So, to do the wine tasting it cost€10 for a goblet and bag to carry it in with the possibility of trying 10 different wines. Now then, when professional wine tasters do their job they sniff, taste and swill the liquid around in their mouths, spit it out and move on to the next one. A sensible thing to do!! But in this event you tried each by actually drinking it. By the time I got to the last one I'm not sure my body knew what it was tasting any more. You were given about 100ml to try each time which means I had a litre of mixed wines. I didn't even feel drunk yet I had a pounding head this morning!! They were all local to Sardinia apart from one from Pavia in Northern Italy. Trying a local redThe last wine I tried was a moscato, a sweet dessert wine and really delicious. It was made by a man from the village where I live and I heard him telling a co taster: "No no, we don't sell this wine we just make it for family and friends"! I was amused as it was a bit like saying come and try this but you can't have any!! It was a really good moscato, but then again at this point Iwasoverindulged in wine! It's great that the local marina has become a bit more atmospheric. I hope that they all manage to stay open and keep the business rolling. Let's see...
