Yesterday morning, I received news at work that today is a holiday, to kick off the national census. The census officially kicked off at 6 pm last night and is expected to last until August 30th.Carrying out a census in any country is quite a feat, however gathering information from the millions and millions of people who live in informal settlements brings whole new set of challenges. Projections are that the national population has ballooned to 40 million and will grow to 60 million in the next 30 years, bringing a whole new set of challenges to the country’s infrastructure, health, education, as well as food and water security issues.
