A shot of my local shopping centre, Brikama market. Churchill Square it ain’t though it’s cheaper and does a roaring trade in Barak Obama underpants…teeth cleaning by way of a twig from a (can’t remember the name) tree. It’s very popular here though the incredible amount of sugar eaten and drunk by most Gambians negates any positive benefits. I’m yet to meet aGambian who takes their tea with less than 5 heaped sugars…a gelly van, the most common and cheapest public transport. I didn’t set foot on one for my first two months as I was scared off by the barely-held-together bodywork and the fact they squeeze as many bodies into each one as it will physically hold. Now, I love them despite a slight feeling of Russian roulette whenever I flag one down…
