As part of our cycle today we thought we would pass by the new college campus and check out the progress. Considering the grade 3 students will be moving there in 6 weeks time, there is still much work to be done. However, according to the two supervisors who showed us around, six weeks is ample time to finish off the dormitories. Some of the classroom buildings are already finished. The whole campus covers quite a vast area and seems huge compared to the current one. The full relocation should be completed by next March, it seems an ambitious task, yet, having noticed how quickly Simao is developing, I am sure it is achievable. There are currently 1000 workers doing a 7 day week, all working flat out. I suppose one of the main barriers to completing the work has been the rain, but the rainy season is coming to an end now.It has been a leisurely weekend, swimming, cycling and socialising. On Friday evening, a group of us went to one of the local night clubs and I was surprised to find that as the evening progressed the young hostesses got very drunk. They are not only expected to serve drinks but also socialise with customers if requested. One waitress was completely intoxicated and incapable of working. I don't think the poor girl knew where she was or what she was doing! I personally think it is far too much to expect these young girls to drink alcohol whilst working. I know that they go into the toilets to vomit and then carry on working!Photos: A view of the new campus and the clock tower inside with 2 nice men who showed us around.
