Today 31 teachers arrived to register for a week long training course which will be facilitated by Lesley, Hou Wanxia, (a methodology teacher from the English Department) and me. The teachers come from two different counties, Mojiang and Jinggu. Each teacher is the team leader of the English Department in their school and will receive training so that they can give more support and guide teachers in their professional development. One of the most important issues they need to develop is how to observe their colleagues and facilitate feedback. Therefore, as well as looking at teaching concepts and methods, the course will give them the opportunity to do practical sessions where they will develop their role asTeam Leader Trainers. They come from the schools where either they themselves or some of their colleagues have undergone training throughPIE (Pre-service, in-service teaching exchange). The follow-up visits which I made last term with Lesley are part of thePIEfollow-up andTLT Trainingis the last part of thePIEtraining programme. The trainers will hopefully help to sustain the development of student-centred methodology in these schools.Today the teachers registered and picked up their packs with all the materials they will need for the coming week. The first training session begins tomorrow morning at 0800 and will run for 7 days finishing next Saturday. A week later we will run another course for teachers from two other counties. I don't think many of the teachers really know what is install for them over the coming week. It is an intense course where they will be expected to participate, prepare micro-teaching lessons and then give constructive feedback. I'll keep you posted!
