Things I might just never get used to

I've been in Kenya for over a year now, and so many things that seemed so foreign to me last October now seem perfectly normal. However there continue to be little surprises on a pretty regular basis. This afternoon, for example, as I looked out of my office window a car pulled into the parking lot and a squeeling goat with its 4 legs tied together was pulled out. It was untied and quieted down, so after a while I forgot about it. Just a few moments ago however I heard a few wails, some commotion in the corner of the compound, then the driver of the car came back into view with a very large knife. They started the car and now there is no sign of the goat, however presumably he's in the trunk on his way to become nyama choma (roast meat) somewhere.I'm pretty confident in saying that this is definitely something I will never see out of my office window at home!
