This week I received notice in my mailbox that a parcel was awaiting pick up at one of the Kenya Postal Service buildings in town. I had heard nightmares about picking up packages before and today learned first-hand why. (Keep in mind below that at each stage, one must wait in line.)1.) Find the pick-up location on the 3rd floor of the giant post office building.2.) Go to the counter and hand person#1 your parcel delivery receipt (yellow slip).3.) Person #1 gives the yellow slip to person #2 who goes into the back and fetches your parcel.4.) Receive your package from person #2.5.) Proceed to a separate counter and open your package in front of person #3 who inspects its content then stamps the yellow slip.6.) Walk back to the entrance to the customs desk with your stamped yellow slip and contents of the package back in the original packaging. Hand your yellow slip to person #4 who enters a number in the computer and tells you to proceed back and bring the yellow slip back to person #3.7.) Walk back across the room and give your yellow slip back to person #3 to have it verified.8.) Pay person #5 for the handling fee of Kenya Postal Service (KSH 70 per envelope)9.) Person #5 gives the yellow slip to person #6 who produces a white receipt.10.) Proceed back to the entrance and present the white receipt to person #7 to verify payment has been made.11.) Return to separate section of the customs counter and give your stamped white receipt to the person #8, who then releases you.At every phase, the individuals did their respective jobs efficiently, however the process seems so unneccesary. Kenya Postal Service… you should be ashamed.Nonetheless, it was worth it! I love presents!
