So today is my last lesson of the year! Here is the last weeks actions...Thursday 3rd DecemberNo power but the generator was switched on for my outsider class, they do enjoy the ICT lessons and I give them an hour and a half rather than just a hour.Friday 4th DecemberWe went to Chake in the morning to visit the bank and I used the internet as in Wete power has been so bad recently. I recieved an email from Claire, my replacement in Mpwapwa. She had been bitten by the dogs that used to hang around near my house!! She is ok though and I will see her again at AVC.We got lunch in the New Alfay restaurant and then got the dala back, we sat in the front which is a nice change from the cramped back of the dala where over 20 normally squeeze in…In the evening we went down to see Juanito and watch the sunset. Then we went to the mess for beers, chips and mishkaki.Saturday 5th DecemberWe were woken up by Liz’s phone early in the morning; it was her family calling from Australia so I forgave the interruption. There was no power and it was very hot, the heat seems to sap your energy especially when there is no breeze! In the afternoon Mr Daudi came over (a caretaker) and asked if he could burrow a romance movie to watch (the way he said he would watch it alone made us think it was not quite romance he was after!) We gave him the Italian Job for a joke and he left.Sunday 6th DecemberIn the morning there was no power but I made banoffee pie anyway. Daudi came back disappointed with the movie but then it is a bit cheeky to come over and ask us for‘romance’ movies!Juanito came over for dinner and I cooked veggie spaghetti. We played some monopoly cards and later in the evening power came back so we both had some nerd time on our laptops.Monday 7th DecemberHot again, must make sure I drink enough water. I took my laptop to work today to get updates for it.The staff at the college told us there is going to be a free education display next week and told us we needed to help with it. So we got some posters and made some new ones as the rest of the staff sat in the office and slept…The students are sitting exams this week and we had a look at one of the question papers, it was written badly and had many mistakes, it is worrying that no one checks the papers before printing! In the evening I made some Christmas cards on the computer so I can email to some people.Tuesday 8th DecemberOnce again we were told we had to make some more posters and shown some to copy from a book. It is not like copying is even hard work but some of the staff were obviously too busy catching up on sleep to help (more than happy to tell us what to do though…) Made us both a little grumpy…The power was switched on so I could teach my ICT lesson for the paying outsiders, this time it was 8 with 4 computers, if it gets anymore I might have to use both rooms! They are very keen though and I am able to teach them despite my bad Kiswahili. In the evening we went to the mess as Wednesday was going to be a public holiday (Nyere day– after the first president). We could not get food though as it was mid week but still got through a few beers and staggered home.Wednesday 9th DecemberWe had a nice lie in and Liz cooked ommlette and Chapattis for breakfast. There was no power all morning. My phone battery was dying so I plugged it into my solar battery charger and it charged up– solar power is awesome!Liz packed her stuff as tomorrow she was going to Dar and I cooked beans and cous cous with some potato wedges for dinner. It was nice to have power and we used our laptops before going to bed with the fan on!Thursday 10th DecemberLiz left today to catch her flight to Dar. I went to the college and taught my lesson to the outsiders. There was some sort of event going on in the main hall so the college was very busy.I am alone until Saturday when I get the boat to go and see Matayo in Dar. Then I will see Liz on Monday and we go to the AVC Tuesday!!Take care
