We were set 30 exercises by our language teacher. After spending ages doing those in the riverside café (which doubles as an office!) I set off to finally have some fun looking around. My bike made funny noises and I found my tyre was flat and split! It was also raining! Although it was a pain having to sort it out it was also useful practise in resourcefulness etc. I used our tuk tuk man (Gideon) who translated for me and generally helped sort it out with a bike repairer on a street corner as part of the market. After a new tyre and adjustments to brakes it finally seems to be running smoothly. Pottering around on the bike is a good way to get a feel for the place though the junctions and roundabouts are a challenge. Alison had a similar problem with her bike. Now all that’s settled and we’re in our hotel room we can finally relax and settle into enjoying exploring Kompong Cham.We were told in our training in Phnom Penh that the traffic rules are: biggest vehicles have priority and older people have priority. As I’m a “borang” (foreigner) and oldish but on a bike I think that means I just have to go with the flow and hope for the best!!Description of Mekong Cruise to follow - next blog…………
