Last weekI wrote about the rampant corruption in Kenyaand it turns out I am far from being alone in my perception, asan opinion pollpublished in Friday’s newspaper indicates that 38% of Kenyans say corruption is their single top-most concern, followed by political instability at 20% and the new Constitution (whose re-writing is nearing the final stages) at 9%.Kenya is currently ruled by a coalition government led by President Kibaki of the PNU and Prime Minister Odinga of the ODM. This was as a result of a power sharing agreement negotiated by former UN Secretary General Kofi Anan in efforts to end the post election violence in 2008 and it's been anything but a happy union thus far. In recent weeks, in a bid to fight corruption Prime Minister Odinga suspended two cabinet ministers who have been implicated in the thefts of millions of government funding, only for this suspension to be revoked by President Kibaki.Interestingly, the article cited that more than half of Kenyans (55%) rank the Prime Minister as the person they trust most in the fight against corruption, with the President ranking second at a mere 14%.“Coalition row angers Kenyans: poll”. 26 Feb, 2010.
