At 9 am today, up to 330,000 Form 4 (Grade 12) students received the results of their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Exams by SMS (text message on their mobile phones.) To qualify for this service, students simply had to send an SMS to 2228 from Safaricom or Zain (the two largest telecommunications companies) containing their student index number.Students can also access their results online, however in rural areas where internet penetration is much lower the SMS system makes so much more sense. This is another great example of finding new ways of doing things using appropriate technology - very innovative indeed!Reference: Daily Nation, p. 1.“Exam body’s plan to send results instantly”. 2 March, 2010.http://www.nation.co.ke/News/-/1056/871564/-/vr52r5/-/index.html
