I have said before that Nairobi is a capitol city, with all that entails... crowds, pollution, traffic congestion etc. and with this unfortunately goes crime. My reason for beginning with this is that yesterday I had my pocket picked. There are exceptions of course but most petty crime in Nairobi is opportunist and this is fairly typical, having survived over eight months perhaps I was getting a bit too confident. However, not so confident as to forget the precaution of not keeping everything in one place and not keeping a lot of cash in my wallet, so I still have my mobile phone and did not lose much. It spoiled my day but I will try not to let it spoil my life.My VSO placement is coming to an end, only a few more week to go which makes the pick pocketing even more annoying. Most VSO placements are for one or two years, so I am a short stint slacker only staying for nine months. My mind is already focusing on things to be done when I am back in the UK and on applying for jobs. However, there is still time to visit friends, take a few trips and enjoy the warm weather. I would not be telling the truth if I said that I had enjoyed everything, all the time during my placement in Kenya, still that is true of life where ever you are and there have been some great experiences. I have no regrets about choosing to do VSO. If you fancy trying VSO go for it, acceptance is not guaranteed but they took me and I am grateful..There is a new intake of volunteers just arriving in Kenya, so the VSO story rolls on.
