Second floor is mine...After 4 and a half months in small guest houses, training institutes, and staying with Nepali families as a paying guest I am moving into my new place.I have been so looking forward to it and for so long, I am finding it interesting that the day I left the family I was staying with, I was much sadder than I thought I would have been.Of course, the apartment is fabulous. It is large, clean, sunny, and super well loved and cared for from a past volunteer who just finished her placement. I have little luxuries like hand towels, and big luxuries like fabulous potted plants and a western toilet! But, I had really gotten used to my routine with the family I was staying with: 6:30 AM wake up and meditate for a few minutes, 7:30 AM tea, 9:00 lunch (yes, lunch), work, 6:00 tea, 8:00 (ish) dinner. Then we'd all go back to our rooms and read, relax, and sleep.I loved that everyone always had tea and meals together. Just a nice grounding throughout the day.I especially will miss Nesa and Salpana, the two girls who help at the house. We'd do art projects together, dance on the roof, sing. Sometimes the family would allow me to help them with the dishes they were washing. They are close by, however, and I will get to see them often, I think. So, for now, settling into my new home! I unpacked all my boxes. It was an amazing feeling to have all my things in one place. The first time in a long time. And to take things out of boxes that I'd packed away since the beginning of my trip. I think I will never be a monk, because, well, I just love my *things*. There is something wonderful about being surrounded by things that I love - maybe things I purchased. But often, a card from a friend, a piece of original artwork, a leather bag made by one of my mentors, the things that help me define my life and what is important to me visually.I had only one day to unpack, however, because then next day I had to start packing for my trip to Kathmandu to pick up my friend from the airport. We're off in a few days for a trek in the Langtang Valley region. It is supposed to be the nicest place to trek in Nepal at this particular time of year. You can check out his blog and pictures here: http://brianrhyolite.blogspot.com/So, when I return to the land of internet, pictures from the mountains to come! And some more of my home for my mother. :-)
