As the school year is coming to an end it means lots of different departments having their own personal celebrations and parties. In the building where I reside there is a large room used for parties set up with KTV and stereo equipment. This room is located on the same floor as my small abode. Having endured two evenings of listening to loud screeching voices and deep base music I decided to move. Limited in my choice of relocation I have now moved two floors up, to the top floor. Parties still continue but the noise now is much more tolerable and my room is slightly bigger and nicer. As I am higher up the views are slightly better as I can see the sky and the distant hills through the town. The celebrations will stop in the next day or two but I felt for the longer term I am better up here as occasionally at weekends throughout the year people like to use the KTV. I am also the only resident on this floor and so during the day it's quieter too.I have also attended leaving dos this week including a meal for all the grade three students. I haven't had much of a chance to get to know many of them because of commitments outside of the college and the fact that I have only been here about three months, but I was really pleased when some of the students from the class I did some teaching with told me they really enjoyed my lessons and they were sorry that I wasn't able to do more teaching with them. Another leaving party was held at'English Corner', an English resource room used every Tuesday evening for students to get together to practice their English. I was forced into singing a duet with Jayne. I have attached a photo so you can see how completely disinterested the students look around us!! How bad was our singing.....I also ended up this week volunteering myself to attend a VSO training course in Beijing which will be focused on ways to measure the number of people VSO is reaching, and the level of inclusion. Lets hope it's worth it.
