I was supposed to go away today on another follow-up visit but it's been postponed until next week, so instead this morning I did a bit of orienteering around the college campus. It was all arranged by Ali and Lesley, Ali is quite an expert at drawing maps. In fact, when I arrived in Simao a few weeks ago he gave me a map of the town which he had made himself a couple of years previously and it's been a God send. So, for this morning's session there was quite a nice little turn out and I set off with my partner, a young student called Shao Mei. It was VERY hot so we part walked and part ran, sweating profusely, but we managed to finish, not in the best time, but we enjoyed it! Most of the participants had never done anything like this before so it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and how well they sussed it out! The last time I did any orienteering was when I was about ten on a school trip somewhere! As so much interest was shown in today's session they're going to set up an orienteering club. A great idea. Later on I attended a barbecue arranged for some middle school kids from a school in Simao. After being put into teams (one foreigner in each team) we played games and competed with eachother. Please note the photo of me trying to pick up as many peanuts as possible with chopsticks. I was only allowed to pick up one at a time, not scoop them up!!
