After work this afternoon, I had arranged to meet a friend across town. Getting across the city on a Friday afternoon is always a fiasco, between trekking through the mud from the Kenya Union of the Blindto the main road in Embakasi, catching a matatu (and watching your possessions closely) and enduring the traffic jam, especially on a rainy Friday afternoon. However on the top of the usual issues, today I had something very unique happen! While I was walking from the matatu stop to where I was meeting my friend, I had to cross the road to avoid at least a dozen baboons popping in and out of the bushes and loitering along the side of the busy road. Although I was told these baboons are relatively tame, I nonetheless picked up my pace and booted it pretty quick along that stretch of the road! This is yet another unique experience that wouldn’t happen to you in the middle of most capital cities of the world. :-)
