Poor Dianne came down with a sore throat on her first day here and barely made it home after supper on Monday - she had grown so tired. She went to bed early but still wanted to go to Mount Edge in the Blue Mountains so we went and scaled down our activities considerably. Our first idea about walking the three hour trek up to the Gap Cafe for lunch never happened, but we did walk up to the shop (The Bubbles pictured later on this post) and bought two bottles of water and a banana. We were followed by two curious school girls from the house next door to Mount Edge. They were just home from school but still in their uniforms. Their picture is also posted below.I was so pleased to see the room had been freshly painted and the floor repaired - no 4 inch crevice right across the length of the room. Without the crack I was much happier going out on the patio and spent a great deal of time just admiring the view and reading while Dianne slept. At one point a doctor bird flew right up within 6 inches of my elbow and headed off again. We also noticed a fair amount of coffee bushes all along the edge of the road. You just don't notice them when you drive past. We also cancelled our car trip up to the coffee plantation this morning which was unfortunate. Not only did Dianne miss the wonderful ritual of tasting the various fresh beans and being served fabulous coffee with delicious sweets, but she also missed the whole experience of being on the plantation. Unfortunately Dianne seems to have spent most of the last 24 hours in bed. The good thing about Mount Edge is it's much cooler up there and much more peaceful and quiet so she was able to get a good night's rest. Plus Marva's breakfasts and the fresh mint tea are perfect for a sick girl. There were two other guests besides us. A Swedish rasta girl studying to be a masseuse. No kidding, she was Swedish and had strawberry blonde dreadlocks which she had done in Sweden. She said she's visiting Jamaica for a month because she loves the music. Then while we were eating supper the second guest arrived, she was Chinese from Hong Kong, but when all the introductions were made and she discovered the rasta girl was Swedish, she immediately started speaking to her in Swedish. She told us she came to Jamaica after visiting the US for 6 months, her home is now in Barcelona but she actually grew up in Sweden. And if that wasn't coincidence enough, we soon learned that she was a masseuse by profession as well. We left them this morning as they headed off to Negril together, the rasta girl with her bag of ganja in hand. I think she loves more than the music. This is a view of Mount Edge showing the steepness of the terraced farm. They have "fields" on either side of the guest house (the buildings with the red roofs). To see more pictures of Mount Edge, please check my posting from our recent visit with Nadine athttp://mwapoleni-bunty.blogspot.com/2010/05/mount-edge.html. I didn't want to duplicate photos for those who have been following my blog since the beginning.
