It's Saturday morning, so we headed off to the market. Unfortunately Coronation Market is no longer available to us after the violence of a few weeks ago. It's just not safe to go there any more and the last I heard the market was destroyed and the vendors had set up temporary stalls somewhere else. It was therefore time to check out Papine market which is only a few minutes up the road from us. We knew it is much smaller but we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of produce and we bought a fair amount of fruits and vegetables. It was also a lot easier to carry home on the bus since it was less distance to travel. This woman talked us into buying potatoes from her by introducing herself - it was her birthday. I'm not sure if it's her birthday every Saturday, but we liked her style so I asked her if we could take her photo. We had a print of the photo made for her and later this afternoon George went back to Papine to present it to her while I went shopping for meat. She was so happy to receive the photo that she gave George a big kiss on the cheek! These men were enjoying the morning activity by watching the World Cup game on a small TV under the blue tarp in the Papine central park. Argentina vs Nigeria. George now knows where to go to catch the games...we don't have a TV.
