I suppose I had better come clean and tell you that my diet has not been going well for the past two weeks. I am struggling to pinpoint the problem but I think the progress was so slow that I lost motivation and was going out so much that it seemed too much like hard work. I went out with some friends, mostly women I met in Barbados, toThe First Floor Restaurantin Portobello Road. Do go, it was great value but the potted shrimps were my downfall! Then, I went for a day trip with an old friend, Tony, to Bexhill on Sea in order to see theDe la Warr Pavillionand the Antony Gormley exhibition. A beautiful day, beaches almost empty, a nice lunch (again, to be recommended....just go to the cafe for theĀ£7 lunch of soup, sandwich and drink) followed by the exhibition which did not impress Tony, a long walk, a double 99 ice cream and the two of us putting the world to rights. We have always enjoyed the activity of sorting out the world, Tony is a source of fantastic stories which never fail to amuse or shock. We come from similar backgrounds and have taught together at Orpington for many years. Both of us enjoyed the craic, the repartee, the relationships built up with people who are making a change in their lives through education. A fantastic job, being a teacher........Then, the art! What can I say, I like almost everything which has something to say, even though I cannot always be sure about the message. This exhibition was called Critical Mass and apparently all the poses were formed fromAntony Gormleyhimself and there are 12 poses laid out across the top of the Pavillion. I really liked it especially because it was a beautiful day and was so English. Hence the flag on the top of my blog.I have been doing other very English things, but not conciously, like going to cricket matches with Andrew and taking a picnic. The contents of the picnic have scuppered my diet plans despite my best intentions. Cricket teas and the contents of other people's picnics are just too tempting. Cake has been a particular problem! I pack the right things, salad, raw vegetables and fruit but the temptation of an eggy sandwich just overwhelms me. However, I have resolved to get back on track this week in order to meet my fundraising obligationssee this link so you can donate to the VSO cause if you haven't done so already. You may have noticed that I have introduced a new dimension to this blog which is inserting links to other sites. I am really pleased with myself over this technical miracle and remember I am entirely self-taught! I do want to ask that you become a FOLLOWER if you can and please leave a comment when you have read the blog otherwise I am convinced that no-one reads it.To finish today, I want to alert you to the next adveture which is my boat trip on the Thames for 3 days with some friends. What chance of my diet surviving? Meanwhile, although the slideshow shows all my photos, here are a couple of favourites.
