I am trying to record my journey towards going to The Gambia and it has been pointed out to me (by Lois, my daughter) that I have not featured my family yet (apart from Matthew, my son).Lois is a fantastic daughter because she gets as excited about me going to The Gambia as anyone I know. She certainly thinks its cool to have a mother who is prepared to risk stepping into the unknown and I know she is very proud of me at the moment. She is just as courageous with her life and has just announced that she is going to start an M.A. in September and is contemplating buying a house with her friend, Lorraine, who is in the middle of the picture. This photo was taken at the wedding of the son (Jonathan) of my bestest friend, Yvonne. It was a fabulous affair but I have finally come to the conclusion that I can never buy shoes other than for comfort! I had a fab pair of pale grey shoes which matched the dress and bag but by the end of the speeches I persuaded my lovely daughter to wear them while I wore her fancy flip flops because I was in danger of never moving from Marylebone without tears. She tells me she ended up walking like John Wayne in an effort to control the pain so the shoes will find their way to the Charity Shop when the big "clear out" begins! This is scheduled for week beginning 7th June on my countdown calender. Now to sisters. I wrote in my last post that my sister, Julie, was 50 this month and in a series of holidays and events she was going to approach the year with a bit of abandon and panache. It should be noted that she is going to be divorced this year after 25 years of marriage which is testing her resolve from time to time. Anyhow, I mentioned that she was reputed to have done a handstand at a Soul Weekender at Caister. I now have proof but in case you don't notice the photograph at the side, here it is again.I do have another sister, Christine, who is on the face of it very sensible and reserved. However, at the same Caister weekend she took to drink and the results were catastrophic! The story goes that her legs went first and she had to resort to crawling into the lift where the next photo was taken.I think my point is that I have two sisters and a daughter who are brave and are capable of casting care to the wind. I know that we all support each other in all our endeavours and this gives me heart and faith that no matter what I have them to fall back on.
