Lots going on but mostly in my head! I am embarked on a promise (in order to raise money for VSO) to lose 20lbs by August 1st. I am afraid that I might bore you all to death with the difficulty of it and the gross unfairness of being lumbered with a metabolism which needs tons of exercise to kickstart it. So far I am doing 75 minutes in the local gym two or three times a a week, despite the roadworks conspiring to persuade me not to go, a yoga class and one proper walk with the Ramblers each week. Have a look at the photo outside Chelsham Church where I am drinking tea and wiping biscuit (reduced fat) from my teeth with my tongue, very attractive! To date I have lost 2lbs......I have delivered more leaflets in Stoke Newington and feel my socialist juices flowing when I am faced with the sheer gap between haves and havenots in our city/country. I am already planning my political comeback when I get back from The Gambia. The saddest part of the last leaflet drop was going into a high-rise block which was home to elderly people. They positively welcomed me by opening their doors once they heard the letterbox go. They weren't paticularly interested in The Green Party but desperately wanted conversation. I was also saddened to read of the death of Corin Redgrave, a man who lived by his principles. I saw him act in a couple of plays and was introduced to him once when taking a college group to watch Antony and Cleopatra in London. So, I am looking forward to a trip to the Hospital of Tropical Diseases to start the round of innoculations and a discussion about anti-malarials. I am also going to attend the official opening of the College buildings and I am a little worried about it. How happy should I be that my life has taken a different direction? In truth it has been extremely liberating to be able to pursue my hopes and ambitions in a way never open to me before. I am going for afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel in Brighton with my mum and sisters to celebrate our collective birthdays at the weekend. Have to watch the diet that day!One last thing for today. I went to two sculpture exhibitions yesterday; Henry Moore at the Tate and The Kingdom of Ife at the british museum. Both fabulous and both with something to say. It almost makes me want to take up ceramics/pottery when I come back!!!
