It was pouring rain on Friday and it had been pouring rain for two days and nights solid. Mark had suggested meeting for an end of the week beer but there were no takers but me. Everyone else had things to do so I asked George if he wanted to try an interesting restaurant near us which Anna had highly recommended. So off we trotted with our umbrellas floating high above our heads protecting our hair and shoulders from the rain. My legs got splashed pretty severely by one fast flying car on Barbican Road. Finding the restaurant in the dark was pretty tricky. We knew it was in the Orchid Mall but had never actually seen it's exact location so we ended up in a travel agency by mistake. The agent inside directed us to a pathway hidden by banana trees and bougainvillea and every other kind of large Jamaican plant. What a lovely surprise inside. So colourful and elegant and all outdoors! The red place setting was on the table next to ours for a group of 16 celebrating a birthday. All their food was served on red and white dishes, while ours was all served on orange matching our respective table clothes. Hmmm, idea...what about a Canada Day dinner for the volunteers at Guilt Trip on the special table with red and white dishes? We ordered our meals but were pleasantly surprised to be given a demi-tasse delicately filled with soup before hand which we didn't know came with the meal. The pumpkin bisque was delicious - all Jamaican soup is...the secret I'm told is those chicken feet! Then came our meal which was fabulous. I had roasted chicken with lime sauce and George had butter fish with peanut sauce which he said had a nice delicate flavour. It was no more expensive than any other restaurants we'd been to in Jamaica. We did feel a tinge of guilt in our elegant surroundings, enjoying the fabulous food, but that was partly because we both ordered dessert which we split in half and shared. I ordered chocolate suicide and George decided on strawberry gateau. The strawberry gateau won the taste test. Thanks Anna for recommending Guilt Trip, it was lovely and thanks to everyone for not taking up Mark with his offer to meet after work for a Red Stripe, we wouldn't have gone otherwise! We'll definitely be back again and not wait for heavy rain.
