(Written 05/07/2010 18:30, La Parisienne Cafe, Fajara)Given that La Parisienne’s connection is going pretty quick today, I thought I’d take the opportunity to upload a few photos which I hadn’t managed to get done from the office. They’ve gone into the posts“These Days Is Hard”,Head ClearedandBorn To Be Wild. There’ll be more to come over the next week as well, providing my luck with good connections holds.I’m also going to (finally) respond to one of the chief requests that I’ve had from some of you: photos of me. So here are two, both courtesy of Pete and Liz. See, I know I neglected you all by not posting for ages, but at least I’m making up for it. The first one is me at Bendula’s:And the second one is... well, there’s a story behind this second one. On July 14th, President Jammeh himself is going to open the new South Bank Bridge. This is ahugedeal for the island, as the President rarely leaves Kombos. On big ceremonial occassions, it’s common for organisations to buy lengths of fabric for their members, all in the same design. The members then all get clothes made from that fabric, which they then wear on the big day, so people who are affiliated to, for example, a particular school or office, will all be wearing clothes madefrom the same fabric. The RED doesn’t appear to be doing it this time, but the Village Development Commitee (VDC) is, and as Pete and Liz’s landlord is heavily involved in the VDC, he was very keen for the three of us to get traditional clothes made from VDC fabric. The result is... well, let’s just say that while most Gambians look amazing in these kind of outfits, there seems to be something abouttoubabswhich makes it impossible for us to match their elegance!Liz took one look at this photo and christened us“The Three Numpties”.
