All food is kept in air tight containers of some sort, even the started box of pancake mix is enclosed in a zip lock bag. Garbage is taken out at least twice a day; once after lunch and again after supper before we go to bed. The white ceramic floors are swept and washed daily. White ceramic is a mixed blessing; the floors look horrid if you don't wash them every day, and by washing them you remove all insect temptations. So wash them I do. Happily. Every day. All precautions are in place to keep the ants and other tropical insects outside or somewhere else.So why is it, that yesterday, we came home to an apartment almost alive with large ants? They were everywhere - crawling up the walls, all over the floors, on the ceiling, in the bath tub. Maybe there is a nest nearby and they had a population explosion but whatever happened, they're all dead now.George immediately started jumping on them. He was still wearing his shoes. Sorry, but I, who won't even kill a mosquito sucking blood out my arm, resorted to chemical war fare. There were too many to dispose of in an enivronmentally sensitive manner...I whipped out the can of Vape and an hour later we were still seeing ants busily going about their business in our apartment. We let these stragglers go. They must have come in after the slaughter. Besides, a few ants indoors when you don't have glass or screens in your windows to keep the insects from entering are just normal. I sweep dozens of the tiny ants which are not much bigger than a flea out the front door daily.
