This blog entry is what Cameroonians would call a“parenthèse”. It indicates something that ought to be put in brackets – perhaps something a bit off the point or out of character (ooh and I must remember to tell you about my pet rat) – see what I mean?Anyway, I’m writing this one-off blog entry to appeal to anyone who knows anyone who knows anything about websites. I’m volunteering in education mostly, but one of my sideline projects is to try and help the brilliant RESAEC set up a blog or ideally a website. Web presence will help them to gain credibility and get funding which they massively deserve. Honestly it’s the only Cameroonian organisation I’ve come across so far which is 100% committed to development, 100% transparent with not even the smallest bit of corruption, makes a real difference in the many villages it serves, and truly deserves every bit of help it can get.I’m fairly handy with a computer, but websites are not something I’ve never looked into before, and so I was wondering whether anyone out there could offer a few pointers? I can show staff how to set up and manage a blogspot account no problem, but if you happen to know of any sites that are better I’d love to know. Ideally we’d have a blog for recent news, and we’d link to that from a website, which would give info about the various aspects of the organisation, and would be less regularly maintained. The site would be:-not overly-complex, but a bit more“websitey” than your average blogfree (or maybe a small initial charge is do-able)user-friendly, even for novicesuseable even with a meagre internet connection– not too packed with graphics/gadgetsin an ideal world, an international site so we can use the French versionIf you can help out and want to really get involved I’ll love you forever (as will all the cute little children, so no pressure). Alternatively if you can throw me any pointers/useful websites/contact details of unsuspecting but quite nice web design experts, that would be just peachy and I can take it from there. You can leave a comment, emailelizabethgurevitch@hotmail.comor send message to me (Elizabeth Gurevitch) on Facebook. Huge thanks in advance you lovely people!
