This afternoon I went to Nairobi National Park for the first time with a group of friends from the UK and Ireland. I have been told on several occasions how beautiful the park is, however I guess I had to see it with my own eyes to believe it!Within the first 10 minutes of being in the park, we had up close encounters with countless giraffes, 5 rhinos, a gorgeous male ostrich, and dozens of zebras and Thomson gazelles! Then, we proceeded to the picnic area where we chatted and enjoyed the view of the park, as one of the young ladies made a glittered 'Welcome to Nairobi' sign to hold up for her mother's arrival at the international airport tonight. (Seemed a funny thing to be doing in the middle of a national park, but it was cute.) :-)Although we didn't spot any lions, cheetahs or leopards on our way out of the park due to the long grass, we did stop the vehicle within about 30 feet of 3 rhinos grazing by the side of the road and witnessed 2 male giraffes fighting slowly and gracefully(almost dancing)with their necks. It was an incredible sight! And the crazy part was that within less than an hour of this beautiful display of wildlife, I found myself back in my noisy apartment in Nairobi. It is days like these that I will miss most after I return home to Canada.
