One of the nice things about this time of year is that it's perfect weather in the evening to sit outside for a meal and hence barbecue. We have some great people staying with us at the moment, some of them returned guests from last year, and we thought we'd treat them to a real Sardinian steak BBQ. Our namesake butcher in Pula has mostly Sardinian meat. I don't know too much about animal husbandry over here but his meat is very tasty and certainly seems to come from healthy bred cows. Or it might be something to do with the fact that he's the friendliest butcher who always has a fixed genuine smile on his face and a happy disposition! Guests were very happy...especially with the accompaniment of the Cannonau! As well as big meat eaters Sardinians are also big fish eaters. One of the most popular being Spigola (Sea bass). It's delicious but a rare treat for us. In Pula you pay about€24 a kilo, probably €8 less in Cagliari. I believe that retailers in Pula tend to take advantage with it being a tourist area and put the price up on most things unfortunately. Today was our special treat. After gutting the inside and stuffing in a couple of dried tomatoes, smothered the skinwith extra virgin olive oil with a bit of salt, and 30mins in the oven it tasted delicious!
