On the weekend, Dominic suggested I make a collection of rasta men photos. He's undoubtedly a better photographer than me and a journalist to boot so it's really an idea he should take up himself, but since I had a few photos in my collection already, I thought I would share them with you and since I have some other interesting faces I thought I'd add them in as well. A collection of solely rasta men will have to wait until I've been here a bit longer and gain confidence asking people to take their photos. These little girls in Spanish Town asked for their picture to be taken when they saw my camera. Even though I knew there was nothing I could actually do with the photo since I'd never see them again, I obliged. Who could say no to such cute little girls? They certainly aren't rasta men but definitely are just as appealing.Danny in Treasure Beach spent over an hour with us just chatting and telling us how healthy he was because of his rasta diet. You can't disagree with that. He drank a concoction of aloe vera and lime to offset the ganga he smoked. We only saw him drinking Guiness. We weren't sure why they posted the no ganga smoking siign on this door. It didn't seem to have much effect.Above is Frankie from Ital Rest Guest House. This vendor works on Waterloo Road in Kingston. I love his shoes which match his cart. He was flattered when I told him so. He proudly held up his fruit while I concentrated on photographing his shoes and cart. And again, the woman below in Coronation Market asked me to take her photo when she saw my camera. The best photograph was the one I didn't get. After I showed her the pictures she finally smiled and with her smile came the most beautiful gold tooth right in the front. It's at moments like that where I wish I had more nerve...I should have asked her to smile and taken another. After smashing the front fender of our rental car in Treasure Beach we had to stop and try to fix it from flapping about. This rasta man came to our assistance and fixed it so you could hardly tell it was broken. He even punched out the dents so the plastic fender was smooth. His work was so good the car rental damage inspectors didn't notice it at first. In the Ochi craft market I fell in love with this rasta man's beard and asked him if I could take his picture. He'd been trying to sell us one of his hand woven hats so plunked it on his head to show it off. A win-win situation. I got my picture and he ensured I would always know where to return to buy a hat.Shy Brian at Irie Rest Guest House is always hard working and smiling. The picture of Mickey at Mount Edge was taken by someone else and posted on the Mount Edge Facebook page. I had dearly wanted to take a photo of him but my shyness took over even though I had the perfect opportunity one evening as he joined us in a game of cards. We taught him how to play the game, a bit too well - he won! This woman called out to us as we were passing her stall in Papine Market suggesting it was a good idea for us to buy something from her because it was her birthday. We couldn't resist and not only bought some potatoes but we took her photo, had it printed and returned it to her the same day. She gave George a big kiss on the cheek.
