I've been home for two full days now after 10 days in Ontario. What a contrast. It's hot here, but everyone knows that so I've slowed back down to a snail's pace. It's going to be difficult to shed the pounds I put on chugging chocolate milk by the litre in Toronto. I miss fresh milk but am now settled back down to eating my morning cereal with yogurt and fruit. You can't complain about that. Bananas, mango, sweetsop, pineapple...I also wonder why all the car burglar alarm systems go off all the time here. I never heard one once while I was back in Ontario and the population is much bigger and there are more cars. So why do they go off incessantly here? The most shocking news I heard today was over lunch at the Girl Guides. The Chief and the Admin Commissioner were discussing the school system and even they were alarmed that school subsidies are not granted to children who live in cement buildings (pretty much all apartments and homes are built of cement here), with a fridge or a stove or a private toilet. The list was longer, I just don't remember all the items. If you have any of these items, your children are not entitled to school subsidies so if you lose your job and don't have the money to pay for your kids education...they're out!
